Ngā Tūtohu Aotearoa – Indicators Aotearoa New Zealand presents the big picture of our lives as New Zealanders living in Aotearoa New Zealand. More than 100 indicators have been chosen to measure data on specific topics. These indicators aim to help all of us monitor progress around our social, economic, and environmental wellbeing.

He Arotahi Tatauranga

Ngā Tūtohu Aotearoa – Indicators Aotearoa New Zealand uses He Arotahi Tatauranga as a pathway to the indicators.

The six dimensions – te ao Māori, human resource potential, empowerment and enablement, economic self-determination, social capability, and environmental sustainability – provide a useful way to view indicators with a common theme. At the same time, they acknowledge the holistic and interconnected nature of wellbeing, which aligns with Māori ways of looking at the world.

It is proposed iwi and Māori partner with Stats NZ to develop a suite of indicators that reflect a te ao Māori wellbeing vision for Aotearoa New Zealand. The use of He Arotahi Tatauranga may be reviewed or revised as a result.
