This indicator will aim to measure the extent of participation in, and quality of, early childhood education (ECE) in New Zealand. This is associated with positive outcomes in the short and long term.
As a proxy, we have information on the percentage of children in their first year of school who have regularly attended an ECE institution in the six months before starting school.
In 2019,
Students who identify with more than one ethnic group are counted in each group they identified with. Attended ECE means regularly attended in the 6 months before starting school.
