Family composition

This indicator shows the percentage distribution of the New Zealand population by family type. The term ‘family type’ means two or more people living in the same household who are one of the following:

  • couple without children
  • couple with child(ren)
  • one parent with child(ren).

In 2013,

28.1%
of people in families were couples without children
