Wellbeing, or hauora, is a broad concept. It encompasses the four dimensions of a person’s health – discussed in the well-known framework developed by Sir Mason Durie, Te Whare Tapa Whā:
Wellbeing also relates to how a person functions and their capabilities (ie, their freedom and the opportunities they have to satisfy their needs). Subjective wellbeing is a person’s ambitions and own understanding of the qualities of their life.
